Do Interventions Work?

It is heartbreaking to watch a loved one suffer from a substance use or behavioral health condition and all of the consequences it brings. While you may have tried to bring up the condition and your loved one receiving treatment before, it may have been met with pushback and even an argument.

You are probably wondering what options there are to encourage your loved one to get the help they need. One of those options is an intervention. With that said, the thought of providing your loved one with an intervention may be scary. How will they react? Will it work? What if it makes things worse?

Below is some helpful information about interventions including what they are, what they should look like, and the Front Door Health approach to interventions.

What Is an Intervention?

To put it in more clinical terms, an intervention is a structured, facilitated process where concerned individuals confront a person struggling with a substance use or behavioral health condition and present them with the impacts of their behavior and treatment options.

What most people think of when they hear “intervention” is what they’ve seen on TV. This often includes combative language, strong ultimatums, and even yelling. In reality, an intervention doesn’t have to (and shouldn’t) look like this. Instead, an effective intervention involves an approach that allows loved ones to express themselves in a compassionate and helpful way (while being guided by a professional in the field).

The Front Door Health Approach

Front Door Health offers intervention services that are compassionate, effective, collaborative, and professional. We help the loved ones of the person receiving the intervention to put together a plan of action and tailor each intervention to meet the specific needs of the person struggling.

If your loved one decides during or after the intervention that they are ready to receive care for their substance use or behavioral health disorder, we can put a plan in place to provide them with in-home treatment services that will allow them to receive the care they need.

About Front Door Health

We take an evidence-based approach to treatment, and we create custom treatment plans for our patients to increase their chances of success. Our treatment process is client-focused and individualized. This means no group sessions with strangers and no “treatment as usual” approach. Your loved one is unique, and the treatment plan we create for them is designed to meet them where they are along their journey and help them reach their recovery goals.

We understand that it can be difficult for your loved one to put their life on hold and take time off work, school, and other activities. Our in-home treatment allows your loved one to continue to meet their work, school, family, and other obligations while receiving the treatment they deserve.
