Do I Have Depression?

Everyone feels sad from time to time. That sadness may even be severe enough that it leads to an extended period of depression. While this is the case, there is a difference between being depressed for a period and clinical depression.

Below are some of the signs to look out for to better determine if you are suffering from clinical depression, along with what treatments may be available, and how Front Door Health may be able to provide you with in-home care to treat the symptoms of depression.

Symptoms of Clinical Depression

There are a few telltale signs that you can look out for to determine if you are suffering from clinical depression. These include:

·      Extended periods of sadness

·      Loss of interest in things that used to bring feelings of joy

·      Social withdrawal

·      Suicidal ideations

·      Irritability

·      Changes in appetite

·      Feelings of guilt and low self-esteem

Keep in mind, it’s necessary to be diagnosed by a mental health professional. Clinical depression is an illness and, like any other illness, diagnosis and treatment should be provided by professionals in the field.

If you are experiencing immediate suicidal thoughts or ideations, or you have begun planning a suicide, contact 988 on your phone. It is available 24/7.

Depression Treatment

There are a few treatments for the symptoms of clinical depression. These include:

·      Therapy

·      Medication

·      Improving physical fitness

·      Improving diet

·      Mindfulness and meditation

Keep in mind, clinical depression is a chronic illness. It can last for extended periods of time and may even last a lifetime for some patients. With that said, treatment can make the illness manageable, and it allows many patients suffering from clinical depression to live perfectly normal lives.
