4 Tips to Stay Sober This 4th of July
Fun, fireworks, food…4th of July celebrations have it all! With that said, they also often have alcohol. This can make it challenging for those who are looking to get sober or have recently stopped drinking and/or using drugs.
If you are worried about celebrating the 4th of July while staying sober, check out the helpful tips below!
4 Tips to Stay Sober This 4th of July
Here are 4 tips to help you enjoy your Independence Day while staying sober:
1. Party with Supportive Friends
If you are worried about drinking or using during the 4th of July, stick to a friends group that knows what you are going through and cares about you. If you are going to a cookout, consider having a buddy or two with you that can grab you non-alcoholic drinks and help you avoid those that may offer you a beer or a smoke. If you can stick to a smaller group of friends that either don’t drink or don’t drink excessively, even better.
2. Plan Ahead
If you decide to hit the beach or anywhere else fun to watch the fireworks, plan ahead. Bring a cooler or picnic basket with delicious and refreshing non-alcoholic drinks and food. This will help you to avoid hitting any crowded stores (likely filled with tipsy people) for food and drinks.
3. Leave When You Feel Uncomfortable
If you start to feel uncomfortable, leave. It’s okay to say goodnight and call a rideshare service early. If you feel like there is a chance of you feeling uncomfortable, consider letting your close friends know ahead of time. That way they know that when it’s time for you to go, it’s time to go. There is no reason to feel bad about heading out, and your real friends will understand and be fine with it.
4. Consider Staying In
While this doesn’t seem like the most fun party tip, it may be a necessary one. See if some friends or family are up for coming by for a board game or movie. Maybe even host a small BBQ with friends and family. You can have a blast this 4th of July without even having to leave the house!
