A New Beginning: Tips for Getting Sober in 2025

Happy New Year!

With a new year comes new opportunities to grow, reach your goals, and become the person you’ve always wanted to be. One of your goals may be to cut back on or even quit drinking. If so, here are a few tips for getting sober in 2025 to help you to stop drinking and live a healthier life:

1.    Remove the Temptation from Your Immediate Environment

The first thing you should do if you want to stop drinking is remove it entirely from your environment. This means clearing out the fridge and cupboard. If you feel bad about throwing it away, consider giving it to some friends that may enjoy it. Otherwise, it needs to go in the garbage.

Not Having substances in immediate reach creates a barrier that gives you a moment to consider your decision. You have to actively go out to get your alcohol, which gives you time to think about whether it’s what you want to do or not.

2.    Prepare in Advance

If you have any upcoming activities, prepare yourself in advance. This may mean looking over the menu for non-alcoholic drinks or even changing venues should you feel uncomfortable going to a place with a higher risk of temptation.

With proper communication, your friends and family should be willing to make accommodations to help you in your early sobriety. If not, you may need to consider setting boundaries.

3.    Find an Accountabili-buddy!

Changing a behavior can be a bit easier with someone helping to keep you accountable. Whether that be a friend, counselor, or even a support group, having someone in your corner helping you stay on track can be extremely useful.

4. Reach Out to Front Door Health for Support
