3 Ways Alcohol Can Kill You

3 Ways Alcohol Can Kill You

Consequences are a funny thing, as many people don’t think they can or will occur until they do. One of the most severe consequences of the misuse of alcohol is death. This isn’t just a scare tactic, it’s a statistic. As many as 140,000 people are killed by alcohol each year. But just how do people die from alcohol?

Below are 3 ways that alcohol can lead to an early grave…

1.    Overdose

When people hear the word “overdose” they often think of heroin, meth, Xanax, or other illegal (or misused) substances. In reality, alcohol is another drug that can kill you—and it’s easier than you would think. Nationally, 2,467 people died from alcohol poisoning on average each year during 2017 to 2020. Alcohol overdose (poisoning) is a real concern, and drinking too much can land you in the hospital—or even the morgue.

2.    Accidents

Drunk driving is a major concern when it comes to drinking. This includes not only cars but also other vehicles like motorcycles and even boats! Many people think they’ll be fine after a few…after all, it’s only a 5-minute drive home. Then they don’t make it home and, worse off, sometimes kill others on their attempt to get home as well.

Drinking and driving is an extremely serious issue, and it can be difficult to avoid for blackout drunks who don’t even know they are getting behind the wheel. If you find this happens to you, you should consider seeking help, as this is a major sign of alcohol addiction.

3.    Health Complications

There are many long-term health complications that people don’t consider when it comes to frequent and consistent use of alcohol. Some long-term complications may include:

·      Liver disease

·      High blood pressure

·      Memory problems

·      Heart disease

·      Digestive issues

·      Weakened immune system

·      And more

Many of these conditions can become terminal or permanent. The quicker you stop the use of alcohol and other drugs, the higher the likelihood of avoiding these life-threatening illnesses.
